How can I “go deeper” this Lent?

By Susan Munn

Prayer, Fasting, and Charity — the three things we need to work on during the Lenten season. Lent is a season to go a little deeper into our lives and challenges us to give a little bit more of ourselves. If Lent is not stretching you a bit, not offering some time from your schedule or comfortable lifestyle, forcing you to grow a bit, then maybe you need to ask in prayer why.

  1. Prayer – Join us for our in-person Stations of the Cross or online Mary’s Way of the Cross (Fridays at 7 p.m.) or Weds. for Adoration. Try something new like Catholic Reflections, a discussion group, on March 22nd at 7 p.m.

  2. Fasting – Bring canned or dried food for our Lenten 400 (items) Campaign for Parkdale Food Centre

  3. Charity and Service – Help us with the Rectory House Renovation and our partnership with Mathew House – clean, general labour, or fold donated clothes in the Rectory and help us distribute them; make some caring calls to some isolated parishioners, setting up for mass; support our Lent Campaign.

There are always ways to help no matter your age or your situation. You can get more information in the bulletin or contact the Parish Office at ottawaholyrosary@gmail.com or 613-728-4935.

I was a “Sunday Catholic” – happy to go to mass and church once a week, make a donation, work and work at my career and pat myself on the back. I recall the day that I prayed confessing that very fact. I was probably falling short. Okay, I was failing. Asking for the Lord to show me what I needed to do, HE gave me the answer. Minutes later, Father Rick tapped me on the shoulder …” Can you help us with …?” He told me to take my time and think about it. I gave my Yes immediately.

Consider giving your “YES”!
